At the Heart of Downtown Prescott
With a population of about 36,000 Prescott is a small city, famous for plenty
of small-town charm and intimacy that won it the title of "Everybody's
Hometown." At the center of Prescott lies lovely, old-fashioned Courthouse
Square, where the beautiful white granite Courthouse is surrounded by green
grass and the deep shade of towering elms.
Courthouse Square is the kind of place where people stroll, walk their dogs,
bring their kids-where neighbors can meet and chat, then step across the street
for a burger at historic Kendall's or a cappuccino at the Hotel St. Michael's.
The Courthouse steps, a band gazebo, and a polished concrete dance area make
this the perfect setting for summer music festivals and concerts, local dance
groups from swing to square dance to cloggers, and the arts and crafts and
antique fairs that bring in the white tents several weekends each season.
Through the summer, classic movies play on an outdoor screen beginning at dusk.
Every year there are several parades around the Square, two of them in the
winter holiday season. Prescott is "Christmastown," and the lighting of the
beautiful decorations on the Courthouse and grounds is the occasion for a great
hometown gathering. There is always something going on in downtown Prescott!
